There are actually at least 13 sub-species of Pika. Of course they do not all inhabit Utah. In fact, they range from Utah to Yellow Stone and the Sierras. They also reside on the plateaus of Tibet and on the ridge edges of fields found in China. With the hay stacks they build they try to find poisonous flowers that help to preserve the grasses throughout the winter. They live in large colonies with several individuals; however, each individual has their own den of which they are very particular.
I think we should breed them and have them as pets!

We have pikas in central Oregon. I had one barking at me the other day while visiting the Newberry Caldera area.
