The Orono City Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m.

Among the items on the council's agenda is a request from the Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission to purchase the building it currently leases. The LMCC had previously been in negotiations to purchase the Southshore Community Center in Shorewood, but the deal fell through.

The council is also expected to vote on the Orono Police Department's request to hire a part-time community service officer and to implement a safe and sober program.

Right across the street at the same time the Orono Board of Education will also meet.

The budget is a little light this evening, but Keith Jurek - the DECA advisor at Orono High School - will present the board with the DECA students activities for this year and Assistant Superintendent Neal Lawson will update the board on the 2008-09 revised budget and a review of the preliminary budget for 2009-10.

Three Rivers readying for summer
With summer ahead and budgets tight, folks may be looking for recreational activities closer to home. That means busy times for the parks and nature centers operated by Three Rivers Park District. Today we kick off a five-part series of interviews with Thomas McDowell, an associate superintendent with the district, who will tell us what's on tap for Three Rivers.

Tomorrow, Tom will tell us about some exciting new facilities that are being built in parks operated by Three Rivers Park District.
