Minghini Cattaneo is what a friend of mine once described a " big hairy chested Mezzo". A true Mezzo of the old school. I love her. This is what the role of Azucena calls for.
I am sure she influenced Cossotto.
Minghini Cattaneo ( 1892 - 1944), died in an air raid at her villa in Rimini.
This performance is taken from the complete 1930 recording of Il Trovatore, here with Aureliano Pertile as Manrico.
La Scala Orchestra, Conducted by Carlo Sabajno.
