Regular elephants are cut down by phalanxes really easily, but several men of the phalanx die too. And that's with Spartans. No wonder the egyptians lost. XD

Phalanx units shouldn't be charged from the front.Sure id you charge them with a lot of cavalry and elephants they will be broken.But' that's slopy..Best strtegy is to pin them down with infantery and charge them with cavelry and elephants from behind.Hit-run and repeat.

i found 2 things very effective against elephants: flaming arrows and then i mean 2 squadrons for 1 elephant squadron and onagers with balls of fire 2 hits on the elephants with that will cause em to run amok witch is lovely if you can do that to elephants locked in a city :p

javelins work if they come from decent troops but the armor on the armored elephants is too though

only in provinces where you can c an elephant on the campaign map and well you can only train em if youre a faction that can train em.

As any nation you can go to the area west of cirta and around there somewhere you should be able to buy mercenary war elephants for 4000 denarii
