This is a video of a tawny frogmouth who decided to have some respite outside our apartment window recently. Having lived all my life in Sydney this is the first time I've seen one, not only in the wild, but in an urban setting.

  • tawny frog moths look like owls but they are not owls

  • @charbelrocks You''re right. I looked this up and it said they were related to nightjars! I learned something new today. Thanks

  • Nicely done - thank you

  • lovely photography of the tawny

  • They aren't owls.

  • Judging by the size and feathers, this looks like an older fledgling. At a guess, less than 12 months old. The building looks like it's on Ben Boyd Road or perhaps Ernest Street. We are in Cremorne and have a family in our yard as well - gorgeous creatures. Could even be one of the off spring from our pair.
