'The Lottery' is a feature-length documentary that explores the struggles and dreams of four families from Harlem and the Bronx in the months leading up to the lottery for the public charter school, Harlem Success Academy, one of the most successful schools in New York. The four families cast their lots in a high-stakes draw, in which only a small minority of children will emerge with a chance at a better future.
you think charter schools are the answer?
just because a charter school graduates a student, it doesn't mean that child is prepared

We HAVE to change our education in this country this makes me so sick and mad to see these bright young minds having very little chance to succeed for the 99% who didn't make it in the lottery

It's not ONLY unions. We have no teacher unions in our school district in Georgia, but the administration has fought charters. Charter schools highlight government schools' failures and reduce their power base.

Can't wait to see it. My heart aches for the kids I know didn't get picked.
