DJ Sifwaden put together this Haitian version of a PSA public service announcement, using skits and music to break down issues of trash, waterborne illness, hand-washing, latrine and toilets. Music, dance and children's chair games, as well as water treatment and personal hygiene giveaways, speeches from community and international leaders, were all part of the event which had over 800 attendees.
This is part of our pilot program sponsored by the UNDP (United Nations Development Program), after the success of our cholera prevention campaign, using Oral Rehydration Points with community members serving cholera first aid and waterborne illness education, in 2010-2011. Our goal is to establish a structure for public sanitation, in partnership with local government. Water well pump training and public compost toilets are part of the program as well.
