A couple US Airways flights I've been on the "trumpeting" sound was generated by the horizontal screws that lowers the rear of the ring, [flaps?] to increase lift during take off... originally supposed to sound like a medium pitched "rummmm" but these were steel on steel grinding....It took a couple times before I can comfortably fly hearing it
