Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed Glasgow's Willow Tearooms for Kate Cranston, a tearoom-owner who wanted to create somewhere for the people of Glasgow to socialise without alcohol. From 1897 to 1917 Mackintosh designed rooms in all four of Miss Cranston's tearooms in Glasgow. They began their partnership with the Buchanan Street Tearooms, where Mackintosh created wall murals - the interiors and furnishings were designed by George Walton. Mackintosh was then commissioned to design furniture and interiors for the Glasgow Argyle Street Tearooms.

  • Ah, the beautiful Willow Tea Room. Enjoyed our visit there some years ago -- look forward to returning.

  • flybreath - Neeps are Turnips. It was Yummy you would have loved it - The Haggis was so Spicy too. What I also loved about it was - The Waitresses are all in black and white uniforms, with little caps - Its just so Old Fashioned, the beautiful linen tableclothes, the silver cutlery and the bone china dinner service.

  • Wonderfully Quaint and Charming Tea Rooms. We were upstairs in the De Luxe Tea Room. The Service was First Class and the Food was to die for. We had Haggis Tatties and Neeps, then we had Tea and Cakes. Wonderful Experience.
