*Click More for lyrics etc* This poem is set to a great song by Enigma called Smell of Desire. I chose it because this is lyrics rich and the song is mostly instrumental so you can enjoy. This is a different kind of poem than I usually write, its a bit looser in context but still touches the richness of matters of the heart so often we find. As always please do not use my work to claim as your own, but if you enjoy (and I hope you do!) feel free to pass on links to your friends. This is also being considered for my book, so constructive comments are welcome. Thank you for watching!
Lyrics:
Many vie for our attention, demanding and calling us away. Some be they small, others surmounting, adding as grains of sand through a glass, ever rising. If only they all could be cast aside, so that with each other we could be, then perhaps filled enough to survive a while longer. Oh but you carry me with you, anywhere life takes you, look down at your chest and a little to the left, and youll find me. Daily trials, superiors racing us through our tasks, our own bodys cry for nourishment, and for rest. Family memoirs, a sweet holiday to share, or a friends celebration to cheer along to. The phone calls from well meaning ones, the long hours in commute to arrive to our next destination, the requests to visit just a little longer prevail often. The one time birth, that coveted graduation, or anticipated wedding, and the sunset shared between an aging parent and grown child that may never be relived the following year. And still the ache inside remains, missing each other, and grows deeper. Oh but I carry you with me, anywhere life takes me, as I look down at my chest and a little to the left, and Ill find you. Trips to scout for basic needs such as food and the latest movie to thrill, meeting old friends at a bistro to relish over memories, the unexpected out of town visitors that overstay their welcome. Last minute ideas to see the latest theatre show, or shoot just one last game of pool before close, or reading a few more pages of that engrossing novel, enjoying a midnight stroll alone just to clear our minds. Riveting in a song you must have sung a thousand times over, or a short thank you for an appreciated gift. Oh but we carry each other with us, anywhere life takes us, as we look down at our chests and a little to the left, and there we find us. And as our passion takes us from one pleasure to the next, we grow ever closer still and more part of the other, our lives though busy this emptiness inside our hearts we hold becomes as great chasms to separate, seeming deeper and deeper with each passing demand. Never-ending, constantly growing, yet one day we will have had our end, as we move heaven and earth to no longer be without the other, to lay our heads down, and rise in the morning, for ever after. Then no matter the grains of sand that pour into our days, we still would have each other to come back to, and to hold at the end of each sunset. A soft caress instead of those only in our fantasies, a dance by candlelight instead of alone in the shadows, a whisper in our ear instead of echoing across the distance, intertwining our fingers together so sweetly. To gaze into each others eyes, and to share a morning in each others arms instead of apart. Then no matter what each day beckons for our attention, we can smile and know at the end of it all, tis to each other we return, to savour and to cherish. Oh and we carry each other with us, anywhere life takes us, as we look down at our chests and a little to the left, and there we find them where we have dreamt in all the time we spent apart...together.
