The Arabian Oryx is a true "phoenix" of the desert. Eradicated from its home, in the well named "Empty Quarter" of Oman's vast desert, it had returned to its former range through a highly publicised and successful captive breeding programme. But this is not the end of its story, something is happening to push it back towards extinction. What is to blame and what can be done to stop this desert phoenix returning to the fire it once escaped from?

  • I believe that this is the variety of oryx that gave birth to what we know today as the unicorn, how the legend changed over the yrs to being a horse like creature is lost in the mists of time.
