Everyone stopped making layered, multiple-sample laden songs right because everybody got sued, Hip hop took a nosedive after this era if you ask me. Stuff like this, Paul's Boutique, Fear of a Black Planet...sampling was becoming a whole new art form, like sonic collage. And then the lawyers ruined it, samples had to be cleared, and you got nothing but one-sample chumps after that.
