This engrossing off-beat and relatively little-known thriller directed by Edward Dmytryk (very much in the Hitchcock tradition, on his dark side - think "Vertigo"), is well worth seeking out.
Recommending it are an engrossing plot, literate script and fine performances by an excellent cast, headed by Gregory Peck, Diane Baker, George Kennedy - and Walter Matthau.
Peter Stone, who wrote the screenplay, also scripted Stanley Donen's "Charade" (1963).

@AJNorth Stone also wrote the screenplay of The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. For some reason, I lump the two movies together in my mind.
