@MrJasonhenry7 I guess you weren't around in those days. Sonny was already an accomplished songwriter before Cher even got to Hollywood. He had experience and many connections in the music industry. He saw Cher's talent immediately and used his influence to make her a star. After his music career was over, he re-invented himself by opening a Palm Springs restaurant, becoming Mayor of that city, then a U.S. Congressman. Cher owes her success to Sonny.

@MsThebeMoon it's not the hipness I am looking at, it's their behavior, this is especially evident in the 1965 recording of "I Got you Babe". I most cases I have seen, Sonny, in particular, appears intoxicated; though it may be an act.
