Those two are always interesting. I get the feeling watching the show that Amanda is the only woman Mac doesn't quite know how to deal with. He tends to get this hilarious sort of hunted look in his eyes in the earlier seasons when she suddenly shows up again, like he's wondering what she's going to drag him into this time. He accepts her as an equal, a force in her own right and in her own way more than he does most women in the show.

While I agree that Duncan loved Tessa, I still always saw him with Amanda. Tessa was mortal; destined to die.
But Amanda and Duncan, they have centuries of history (haha literally) between them. They have seen things and done things that Tessa would have never been able to relate to. I love them together...not to mention Adrian Paul and Elizabeth Gracen had such chemistry! *sigh*
