The movie walks you through the steps of how to transfer your recorded video from a Sony HDR-CX160 camcorder to a mac in iMovie, by only using the USB cable.

  • Hi Kurtat1, your video is awesome and worked really well. Question though: My videos downloaded into iMovie, but the video and the audio are really out of sync. My video goes really fast and the audio is normal. Any suggestions? I've tried using iMovie's clip adjustments, but nothing seems to help.

  • @SugarPlumKisses1 Thanks for the comments. I have not seen this issue before, but I went on youtube and found this video and maybe it will help you. youtube.com/watch?v=XR1NLmBTs-o

Let me know if it works, Thanks.

  • When I connect HDR-Cx160 to imac built in PMB appears and imovie screen despairs. please help.

  • @jungsinkim The PMB is the program that is already installed on the camera and it wants to manage the files. Verify that the camera is off and not connected. Open iMovie, connect the camera, and follow the steps. Image capture will probably open, just close it and continue. Thanks

  • Hey thanks so much for the vid! However, I'm still having problems with iMovie recognizing the camera. When I follow your steps in order to plug the camera in ans such, iPhoto, and the computer recognize it. Like, I will have my drives on the desktop so the computer obviously can tell that it's there. Now, when I try to import the videos using iMovie, I get the import screen, but the only camera recognized is the Built-In iSight. It's killing me:P how do i fix this? Thanks!

  • @tripleplay1882 Thanks and sorry for the delay of my response. If you didn't already do it, make sure that the camera is off and not connected when you start iMovie, then follow the steps. Image capture will probably open, just quit image capture and continue.

  • Does this not reduce the quality of the original video from the camera? And isn't there a certain setting we should be recording at (60p or 60i) to upload to a mac properly?

Thank you for the tutorial! I am looking into getting this camera, but want to know for sure what I am getting into.

  • So is the CX160 compatible with a Mac? I read a review where the guy claimed it was not and I was like WTH??? Also, is there a jack for an external mic?

  • Thank you for this great video. I have followed your instructions to import using the same camera, and the video imports beautifully. My question to you is about unplugging the camcorder procedures. First you said to uncheck the camcorder icon on the desktop, and then uncheck all other devices by clicking on them. When you unchecked the other devices, another window appeared with a list of devices. How did you get to that window?

  • i need help. i can connect it fine but the footage i just recently filmed does not come up. when the window with the footage you want to import comes up only one video i filmed comes up(and the video was filmed monthes ago.) if you have answer please message me back. thanks.
