This video compares the Luxeon LED powered brake lights vs. Normal 12V 21W bulb. Take notice on the speed to turn on and reach full brightness, and the speed to turn off and reach total darkness. And also take notice on the brightness of the LEDs vs. the bulbs. The LEDs are bright enough to take over the bulbs, quick to react, and draws less currents. The total LEDs used on the left tail light casing is 4x 3W LEDs. Was planning to add more, but I don't want to blind the following car.

  • are you planning to install a PWM (pulse width modulator), to be able to run the LED's in night mode and Brake mode (two different intensive levels)

  • Was thinking of adding PWM at the beginning so to get a massive area of low/high intensity of lights, but I would like the lights to light up as stock (though in LEDs), so I scrapped the idea... and it's easier to wire up anyway :P

  • why is there a delay with the right lights?

  • The right light cluster is fitted with standard filament bulbs for comparison.

  • Very nice!

  • @pioneerz450 Wrong. LEDs aren't in widespread use because of costs, and the required redesign of the electrical systems and taillight housings in cars to take advantage of the lower voltage (cheaper wiring) and the very direction light, which isn't optimal in ordinary housings. As new cars are designed they're utilizing LEDs when contracts are available. LEDs use less power and make less heat (bright ones can still get very hot), last longer, and are very hard to damage.

  • thats the thing with light bulbs they are smoother thats why we have em instead of LEDs

  • lol

    good one!

  • LEDs on the DeLorean, so random! Take me back to the past!
