March 29, 2010 — Najib Abdul Razak, Malaysia's prime minister, is set to present on Tuesday a new economic policy, a controversial socio-economic initiative that aims to give equal treatment to all ethnic groups in the country.

But for decades many ethnic Chinese and Indian groups have long grieved of institutionalised discrimination and alleged the country's ethnic majority enjoy special advantages in housing, education and employment.

Waves of ethnic Chinese and Indians left the country between 2008 and 2009 to seek a better life abroad.
Although Najib is vowing equality for all, minority communities are pessimistic.
Laura Kyle reports from Kuala Lumpur. [March 29, 2010]

@jackaleyess I can't understand why you can't accept social contract. If you are disagree with social contract, you should blame your past leader. Ask your past leader why they accept it at the first place? Or you can ask Kit Siang & Karpal Singh what they have done to oppose the policy when the policy is being draft? Maybe they have not done their job good enough. For me social contract is not the root cause. The real root cause is misunderstanding.

Did he said forgive a lot of things and the malays had sacrifice a lot of interest ? Did the Chinese or Indian do anything wrong to them? The Chinese and the Indian work so hard and give 30% free share or profit to them just because of their skin colour or race ? What have they sacrificed ? Did the malays give anything to the Chinese and Indian? Why can't the Malay help themselves? Why still have to depend on other race after so many years of help and support from other race ?

Malaysia is an apartheid country. 1 Malaysia is a BULLSHIT. Abolish the special previledge for Malays. Education, employment should be based on thge merit of capability not by colour of the skin. The govt use ISA to protect their selfish interest.

@sparkyblue00001 Well, I guess any argument here is pointless. I guess this is the "social contract" or "society's norm" that we should accept, we should just accept. At least more than half of the population here "believe" in this policy. LOL~

Be honest, I am a Malaysian Chinese that couldn't agree with this. I am moving out. Life is so simple for me... take it or leave it.
