USA - 36 Gold. This omits the bias that the 2008 Olympics was held in biased China.

In 2004 the summer Olympics was held in Greece, which was a neutral country. In 2004: USA - 36 Gold; China - 32 Gold

The disadvantage for USA is that it has only 21% of the population size of China. However, the USA has 93% of all the best brains in the world.
