Called tuna by the Spanish, this indigenous cactus fruit and the pad it grows on are delicious to eat and drink and dubbed a miracle food for its medicinal properties. This pricky pear grows locally in New Mexico and worldwide. Next September pick tunas, no fishing required, and eat them raw, make jams, margaritas or other delicious foods that support healthy blood sugar.
