... First, it's a romhack. Second, you're probably running this under Nestopia so it throws you to world 0-1. That's it!

Yeah, video game making is a team effort it looks like. Lots of programming for only one person to make an entire game.
I would say the same about animation, but I think the software for creating that has improved so much that one person can make a cartoon by themselves in a timely manner. I'm glad my videos don't really need animation. They're more about content than presentation.

It is either a bad dump, or it's incompatible with your emulator. It often happens to me, so I keep at least two different emulators on my pc to be sure.
