The War on Drugs Threatens El Paso (Beto O'Rourke)

The War on Drugs threatens trade and important cultural relationships between El Paso and its Mexican counterpart, Juarez. For merely discussing the merits of the War on Drugs, the state of Texas and federal government threatened the withdrawal of funding from the city council in El Paso. Former El Paso city council member Beto O'Rourke spoke at the Cato Institute's conference, "Ending the Global War on Drugs" on November 15, 2011.

This video touches on another topic too, how states & municipalities have been feeding off the federal teat for so long. The federal govt doesn't mind this, they rein you in with the promise of tax $ from some other state and when you don't do their bidding, they'll threaten to take away that funding. Much like foreign aid works too.

These are the types of arguments that further solidify why decriminalization & legalization needs to be seen as positive agents. The ideology and morbid-dysfunctional thought of those that are benefiting from the drug war: government agencies, penal systems, pharmaceuticals, and so forth. (At 5:15)When a DEA agents states that the death of people is victory for the war on drugs is beyond delusional and insane. To the DEA agent, the death of the little boy a victory? What if it was your son.
