A song that tries to touch on some of the experiences of humans who have been in combat situations and then returned to 'normality'. Having not been in combat myself through the pure luck of being born at the right time, i am acutely aware of the risk that the song might be inauthentic for real combat veterans. If that is the case, i sencerely apologise. But songs are not factual histories or reportage, and they stand or fall on whatever power they may possess in their fusion of melodies and a few hopefully pointed lines of lyrics. Not an easy song to write or to sing convincingly - i would love to hand it to a band with a powerful front-man - for all my songs, i am the vocalist ONLY because there was no-one else stepping up to the mic. at the time - drumming is a breeze compared to singing for me - and i would never call myself a 'vocalist' in the same way i'd claim the labels 'drummer', 'songwriter', or at a pinch...'guitarist'.
Paul Acourt (2011)
No5 original song from newCD - 'I'D WALK THROUGH FIRE FOR YOU' ...dark song about going to war, having comrades, and coming home...a bop-free zone.
'Looking out your window watching the sky
watching the clouds go by...wondering why
Why the killing, over again, why the broken men...and women crying..
You're my brother you're my friend...my hero to the end..and i'd walk through fire for you...and do anything you ask me to
Take from me what the wide world owes you...but don't ask me to love...what-we-do...lets pray we only do what we have to..and then i'd walk through the fire for you...and do anything you ask me to...yeah i'd walk, through fire, for you....you...
Hearing the news, the guys are over there..they must be so scared...but they'll go on...the flag is high, captain's by their side...they're only running on pride...in the uniform..
Wen coming home is no mardi-gras...they don't know who you are...or what you've done...no easy days at the family place...afraid to see your face...under the same old sun...
You're my brother, you're my friend...
Staring at the TV seeing nothing at all...you could watch the wall...time still goes by....it's not the world outside that's so unkind...it's the nightmares deep...inside your own mind
A duty done has everlasting youth...if history marks it down...that's someone else's truth...they were there or they were nowhere near...might know the touch of fear...but never through and through...
You're my brother, you're my friend....
Looking out your window watching the sky...watching the clouds go by...wondering why...why the killing over again...why the broken men...and women crying
You're my brother, you're my friend...my hero to the end...and i'd walk through fire for you...and do anything you ask me to...do anything you ask me to..."
