A touching performance of this negro spiritual by Helen Dilworth of San Francisco in 1995. Piano accompanist was Dr. Bill Allen. Uploaded with the kind permission of the artist.

  • I heard this song for the first time today on the radio because none (NONE) of the other radio stations had anything good on. All the same pop stuff I've heard twelve million times already. I fell in love with this song...however, the version I heard on the radio sounded like it was sung by an older woman. Does anyone out there know what version is played on the radio???? I know I don't have a lot to go on, but I'd really appreciate any info.

  • @kattwin1 You have to contact the radio station because they keep a playlist of everything that goes on the air. There's no way that I could know, what with the thousands of radio stations around the country. 8)

  • That is the late William Duncan Allen at the piano? I met both in Oakland, CA in 1993 at a NANM Convention.

  • @benderpm Yes, the concert featured him, and Sylvia Olden Lee on piano.

  • I love Helen Dilworth's voice, singing and personality. She is wonderful!

  • @benderpm Yes.

  • Dr. Helen Dilworth. She teaches at City College of San Francisco and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A wonderfully exquisite voice and interpretation. She has been teaching and performing for many years and is quite a musical force in the SF Bay Area.

  • So gorgeous....this is unbelieveable....

  • Sorry for not getting back to you. You're right, it was the Still version.

  • This sounds fantastic. I have a question? Isn't this the William Grant Still version and not the William Dawson version?
