My first attempt at using my GoPro forehead cam. I am flying a Cameron V31 cloudhopper hot air balloon from Thongkwao airfield in Chiang Mai Thailand. Most of the flight was between 200-300 feet above the ground and lasted about 45 minutes. The instrument on my knee is an altimeter and variometer (that you can hear beeping) and the yellow one is my GPS I check my groundspeed vs. altitude with to determine the best altitude to fly. In this first phase I climbed to about 500' then settled back to around 250'. My chase crew is Edgar "let the adventure begin" Whitney.

  • I'm just waiting for flyable weather. Home made hopper waiting for first flight.

  • You are lucky you are in Thailand in this video. If you were in the USA, you'd have issues with regulations.

  • Class G airspace requires 1 mile visibility. When you leave the ground, the visibility is required to be more than 1 mile. The visibility upon take off in this video is obviously less than 1 mile.

  • Ground visibility less than VFR conditions.
