You have a point,TurboDally, but it seems to me that the peaceful, moderate Muslims are awfully quiescent and let the outspoken ones spout their hateful rhetoric. This has led me to wonder if moderate Muslims (1) tacitly agree with their rabble rousing brethren's invocation of the ugly & violent tenets of the Qur'an, and, (2) if they just want to sit back and let the wild-eyed radicals do all the heavy lifting for them.
@XXWhambarXX You misheard her then, what she's trying to say is that although Islam is a nasty religion, not all the followers of it adhere to the more nastier aspects of it, like the Christians who cherry pick the nicer things, there are many Muslims who do the same. Also, there are Islamists and ordinary Muslims- being able to distinguish the two is extremely useful/helpful as it's quite often the Islamists who're the direct threat.
The woman talking about how islam and muslim are not the same is an idiot. You cant have muslims who are not followers of islam. Should I call myself a 'free thinking' christian rather than an atheist because my parents were believers?
If you are muslim that is not your race, its not something out of your control. All it is is a lable to let people know what myth you follow.
What is with PZ & Aron lettting Muslim apologists have free reign any chance they get? You speak then I speak or your ask a question of the panel then sit down.
This woman wants to excuse the Islam in Islamists? Cruely, violence, injustice, the grotesque treatment of women and all sorts of other absurdities have their home in the Quran. It's like Prego, it's in there!
@salahhe even if there are not I now want to know what she considers to be a muslim. is it a race of people, is it really people that believe in "god," or is it people that come from a certain area? there just wasnt enough information from her on what a muslim is, she was just wanting to define what a muslim was not. the islamic extremists she wants muslims to be differentiated from are also muslims as they also believe in "god." I agree with everyone else that there should be no distinction.
@mackinthebox The god is the same. The differences are in interpretation. Like Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, Christians believe Jesus was the son of god and Jewish people think he was neither. But the GOD of all these three major religions is the same. Yahveh, Allah, Adonai, just different names for the same deity.
@salahhe I dont think that's correct, im pretty sure there are difference between the ultimate deities in each of the books. There are similarities but there are also differences. Theyre both religions but they each have different belief systems.
@SquirrelFromGradLife Yeah and notice that she was the first to use the word "enemy" refering basically to uneducated people. I don't see the most illiterate of muslims as "the enemy", islam is the enemy. And any faithful muslim *does* represent what islam is, the same way creationists represent the bible. It's just that both are literal in their reading of both texts and this is how the texts say they should be read, therefore they represent the religion. She is the element of confusion.

1) She's not a Muslim apologist
2) She's already aware of the violent that's inherent in Islam.
3) She's trying to get people to distinguish the cherry picking Muslims (which Christians do plenty of), from the radical Islamist types...

I did not like this portion of the show at all.

If you no longer adhere/believe in Islam, why then call yourself a Muslim?
