  • newbie here what can i do with all the major scale positions?

  • Music has been created from these sounds/scales. Invent something melodic or at least try to. Use the scale to make up melodies.

  • it seems these different positions are identical to the modes of the major scale. Are they in fact so?

  • @Splurgendii They ARE in facts o...

  • At the moment I am trying to memorize the 5 major scale shapes and then I found these your videos about the 7 shapes. I know there are two more to practice but why would it be a better system?

I see having 3 notes helps on having a regular hand movement and also it's a good start for hearing modes... but when would you use any of the 5 shapes or any of the 7s?

Thanks again John, a real pleasure listening to your lessons.

  • I use all these positions and I grab notes and chords wherever I am on the neck. When you start doing chord melody the knowledge of where everything is really helps you make good arrangements......Thanks for your interest, John

  • ok can someone explain to me if this is as the minor scale, that they follow up, so that if a song is played in A that you use all these 5 position after eachother like in the minor? or is it different now?, i hope someone understands what i'm saying haha

  • you are a FANTASTIC teacher. i love your methods of teaching.

  • @Testacabeza Learning the five positions first, in my humble opinion, is a a better method, though once you understand them and there related chord forms using the seven position method can only improve your playing and improvisational skills. Just understand you should always know how to walk before you run.

  • This is beginner shit. but very helpful for people to get out of the same one shape pentatonic rock shit. learn these positions and than combine them and get out of playing one position at a time.
