On the 8th April 2004, Midland Mainline ran a special return journey to Derby using preserved loco 45112 "The Royal Army Ordnance Corps" a "Peak". These locos were a common sight at St Pancras during the 70s and 80s. The next day, Good Friday the 9th, the Barlow train shed closed for the 3 year transformation into the new home of Eurostar. Midland Mainline services moved to the part-built extension seen in the film. This is now the South Eastern High speed terminus. The St Pancras redevelopment has only just been completed with the opening of the beautifully restored Midland Grand Hotel in March 2011. A short walk along Euston Road we see some classic Routemaster buses. At Euston, the introduction of Pendolino EMUs was in full flow but there were still plenty of 87s to see.
And that would be my brother and his eldest son out of the front window....
