Exactly! People don't understand the Free Exercise Clause and the Establishment clause. The first says that you can practice any religion you want; the latter says that the US can't promote one in the public square.

Article 6 of the Constitution says that "all treaties...shall be the supreme Law of the Land." The treaty of Tripoli says that "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." Case closed. Google it people. Not difficult.

It is arguable that separation of church and state was intended so the state would not control the church, not the other way around. If people say it enough times people started to believe a more single-minded interpretation, one that allows the separation of church and state as a way of kicking the church out of the state, but at the same time controlling the church through regulations and law.

First of all, to anyone who doesn't think we are a Christian nation, you are wrong. You may interpret the Constitution any way you'd like. However, George Washington wrote in his Farewell letter, that we are united under a common religion. Most of the Europeans who came to America were devoted Christians. More specifically, the Virginia and New England Colonies, were the most successful. It is not a coincidence that the Christian colonies thrived much MUCH better than the others.
