I agree with you, Senna was absolutely tremendous
R.I.P Ayrton
but Nobody was unluckier than Mansell during this year.
almost his whole career was about bad luck.
Mansell skills are really underrated now, almost forgotten. Sad.
He wasn't the quickest or the smartest, but he always drove with his heart at 100%, Moreover he had no fear & could "try" to overtake ppl in impossible areas... hmmmm, Sometimes he screwed up!
I really miss this 90's races.
Best cars
Best drivers
what else?

Back when Bob Varsha was allowed to commentate from the Grand Prix, not a room in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Senna's performance in this GP is all the more admirable when you consider the fact that he spent the entire off-season in Brazil away from F1 racing altogether. Turns up at the first race of the season and outperforms everyone. The guy was truly amazing.

@McLarenMercedes The Long Beach GP was extremely successful, but because CART was made up of mainly American drivers the promoters thought it was more beneficial to have it as a CART race as opposed to an F1 race.

prost is the greatest

I love how old school this is.

@UltimateWheelman SPEED has always sent their commentators to the USGP... while there was one.
-
@bduddy55555 I knew the commentators were sent to US GP's. And for sure ESPN wouldn't fly them around the world like ITV or the BBC do. It's just not popular enough over here for that to happen.

Why did you cut out the Speedworld intro? ;(

Maybe they promoted it well, but F1 was a very small sport in American media back then. In 1991 there were fewer people watching the race in Phoenix than an ostrich race a few weeks later. No joke. For this reason F1 pulled out from the States after 1991 and didn't return until 2000, only to pull out again from 2006.
You want quality broadcasts? Watch the British channels with expert commentators and a love for the sport.
Brazilian and German broadcasts are good too.

I think Mansell deserved the 1986 title (a puncture a few laps from the end meant Prost won the title)
Mansell led 416 laps in 1987 and won 6 races. His team mate Piquet only led 154 laps and won 3 races. Piquet was champion. Yeah, that was really fair...
Had the Williams FW14 been more reliable at the start of the 1991 season he might have won that title too.
Fortunately it all came together in 1992. And the in CART in1993.
Senna really should have dominated this season more. Lost Mexico with a big lead, tire failure, bad back marker pass attempt in Brazil, with a big lead and gear box mistake in Australia, with a big lead. He should have runaway with it. Thats racing.

yea dont forget 1989. to many mechanical and electrical failures from the lead. and it still came down to the end with prost having to side check senna at suzuka at the chicane.
