@FreethinkingFun - Did u even READ my comment? u just repeated what i said: electrics were first. People chose combustion (more efficient). Just think about external combustion (steam). U use the energy from coal directly rather than routing it through the grid to your car. gas n Diesel r even more efficient (@ this point in history)

@yadidimeanmaine WRONG..electric cars actually predate gas-powered cars. 1833, Thomas Davenport built an electric rotary motor. Then Robert Davidson attached the motor to a carriage and invented the first electricity powered car. The first gas powered carriage wasn't until 1864.
At the turn of the century people had a choice between gas, electric or steam. First 'hybrid' was in 1898.
I'm not necessarily saying that "big oil" killed the electric car but there is no reason to ignore history
