Isabel Mourão was born in São Paulo, 1932. She was one of the most important brazilian pianist. She was the first pianist in World to record all the Liriques Piéces pour piano, composed by Grieg. She can´t play anymore but she is a LEGEND. This is the most beautiful interpretation of this Mozart´s sonate, in my opinion. She played this sonate in 1953, in NY Town Hall.

  • I have heard of Mourao's recordings of the Lyric Pieces on Vox, but this is the first time I have ever heard any of her work. Who did she study with? Was it with Rudge? She is only 77 - what has impacted her ability to play today? It is a sad loss, as she plays with such verve here! Thanks for sending this on.

  • She started to play very soon, with Joseph Kliass, a great brazilian professor, who studied with Krause. She studied in Europe and then with Mme. GUIOMAR NOVAES.

  • Yes! I have heard of Kliass, too. With such impeccable credentials, I am not surprised that Mme. Mourao played with such sensitivity and polish! (:-D)
