Typically used to start a tie either on the arms or legs the single column is probably the single most useful tie in Shibari. The single column can be any beam, bamboo, a leg, two legs etc.
This tie can be used to start a futumomo or on it's own to suspend someone from a single leg

  • @Asmor: Synthetic ropes definitely require different knots due to the reduced friction, a somerville bowline may be a better option for you. The knots presented here are designed for use with natural fibre ropes.

  • Thanks @spanksockbat. I figured that was the case, but I just wanted to make sure. I've got some hemp rope on order, but it might take as long as a month before the order's ready to ship. D: C'est la vie. Will be worth the wait!

  • When I tighten the knot in the last step (pulling on the bight and the working end, it tightens the cuff as well. In addition, if I pull on the cuff, it'll tighten (like a noose would). I'm practicing with nylon rope; not sure if this is how the knot is "supposed" to behave, or if it's because the nylon doesn't have the same grip a natural fiber rope would. Any insight?
