now, I'm playing the 2nd violin in it. amazing thing
-
@theduchessofhorses actually, its not tuned down. I played along with it today on my A=440 tuned cello.
-
very well played! lovely interpretation. not too over the top or showy...just right.
-
@theduchessofhorses actually it's still audible that this piece is played in the key of c minor, unlike some where it sounds to the point that it's one whole semitone lower than how it should sound.

GENIUS
-
They (the quartet) had tuned their instruments to the Baroque A.
Beethoven lived in the late Classical era.
-
I think the music sounds kind of weird because the bows were lighter in Beethoven's time. It says "performed on period instruments."
-
I like how the music goes up and down so even if u were to try u really couldnt completely drownout the sound unless u turned down the volume completely although i dont see how u would want to :)
-
beautiful.
It doesn't sound like todays musical quality. It's more like the much higher old quality, not common today.
Please tell me if I'm wrong. I'd be quite surprised if it was from the past 30 years, if not from long before that.

@violin614 the reason it sounds different is because this group, as it says in the description, plays on period instruments (no shoulder rests, no cello peg, gut strings etc.) in the style common in Beethoven's lifetime. This piece was recorded in 2006.

@HARMONICO101 Are you saying the actual musical style is also like as was common in Beethovens lifetime?
Quite fiery!

@violin614 That is the goal of the ensemble. We of course can't say for certain whether this is exactly how they played in Beethoven's lifetime, but we can certainly make some educated, informed guesses.
