With a history of crimes ranging from the petty to the not-so-petty, it's little wonder that Ollie Readshaw turns tail and runs when the cops clap eyes on him. However, as he isn't immediately known to Sergeant Stone, he's left to assume that the boy has something to do with Danny Sissoulu's stabbing. A chase ensues, which ends with the young man leaping into traffic and meeting a grisly death beneath a juggernaut's wheels.
His mother, Debbie, insists that Ollie was by her side from when he rose that afternoon until at least 9.30pm, and maintains that she's telling the truth even when evidence disputing her statement comes to light. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time that a grieving mother has lied to the police in order to do what she sees as the right thing by her son. But DI Manson is going to have to tread carefully if he's to elicit vital information the truth from a woman on the edge.
