This video provides information about how important alfalfa is to food and farming, and the threat that GM alfalfa poses to family farms and organic production. Alfalfa growers do not need or want genetically modified (GM, also called genetically engineered) alfalfa and have been trying to stop GM alfalfa in Canada for at least five years. The introduction of Monsanto's GM herbicide tolerant (Roundup Ready) alfalfa would have serious negative impacts on many different types of farmers and farming systems, both conventional and organic. Because alfalfa is a perennial crop pollinated by bees, GM contamination is inevitable. Alfalfa is an important part of many of the foods we eat everyday. GM alfalfa was actually approved in Canada in 2005 but still needs to go through one more step before it can be legally sold as seed in Canada. Join us to stop GM alfalfa! For more information and more action you can take see http://www.cban.ca/alfalfa

Thanks! The little cartoon bee does look more like a honey bee than a leaf cutter bee. We wanted the bee to be recognizable to non-farmers, knowing that people do eat alfalfa honey also. She is every-bee! We are creating more detailed resources on alfalfa including information about the bees that pollinate it. To contribute, please contact us info@cban.ca .

GMO's are causing all sorts of terrible problems all over the world We in Canada HAVE to protect ourselves NOW before its too late and GMO's seeds are all that's available to us.
Thank you for making this video and reaching out to people that might not otherwise be aware of GM dangers!!!

Im trying, really trying to understand the issue here, but what i don get is why the hate and fear on GMO's themselves? From what youve shown its flagrently clear the the real issue here is the technology being misused by greedy corporations unfairly suing farmers.
THAT I can totally get behind, what the hell? they didnt buy your stuff but theyre suing you bc some of "their" pollen fell into the field? ok ok, i get that.
But why then not go after these comanies instead of GMO's?

while I appreciate the sentiment, it was utterly painful to watch. I do hope this is targeted at kids for education.

Gm crops are a problem on two fronts. I am gobsmacked when farmers can be sued by the GM seed patent holder for having bees pollinate their seed crops with pollen from a GM field. That is just wrong on every level.
GM is a problem when it alters the pollen and nectar in the GM plant such that it is less nutritious, less plentiful/absent or toxic to bees.
GM corps have behaved very badly and it will take some time and extra effort to win back public trust.

Great. It's difficult enough to shop corn/soy/canola/sugarbeet-free. Here's hoping I don't have to cut down the list any more.
