Each installment of Ben's Tours will take you on a visit to a special place. This time join me as we walk through San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district, arguably the birthplace of Sixties counter-culture.

  • what do you even do there? just shop and stuff? what is there to do?

  • @brazilnews Well, it is a commercial street in a residential area, so yes, pretty much you can shop and eat. But beyond that, it's about the history of the neighbourhood and it's place in American counter-culture...

  • do u need to cross the golden gate bridge to get to ashbury??? or this is in san Francisco town?

  • Haight Ashbury is actually right in San Francisco, you don't need to cross the Bridge.

  • cool vid.......I lived @ 557b Asbury 1978

loved it......never should have come back east........

  • If you were at 557b and I went to 710 to see the Dead house, I must have walked past your old place. Sorry I wasn't filming for you at that moment, but hope the rest brought back some good memories.

  • This is the number one place I'd like to visit!

    Great vid! :)

  • WOW...this was awesome! I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Haight-Ashbury...I would do anything to have lived there during the whole 1967 Summer of Love scene. There is just something about that time and place that really gets to me...

Anyways I have looked at pictures and tried to imagine what it would be like but this video has given me the best idea so far. You did a really nice job.

Hopefully I will make it out there someday.

  • @brazilnews Buy and sell drugs at the foot of haight and stanyon. You buy acid there and then you stroll into the pscycadelic wonderland known as golden gate park and trip balls with the rest of the hippies.

  • I went there this summer it was so awesome!!! Not quite enough time but hey we managed to see Grateful Deads old place and Amoeba Music. There's also that superb t shirt shop on the corner where I bought this Hendrix t shirt for about $15, plenty of smoke shops, and the beautifully painted houses around that area. it's a really great feel good place

  • @XxKookieMonster69xX

set your time machine for summer 1966.

the media turned the whole idea of peace & love into fashion. which goes out of style.

there were many "weekend hippies" who wore wigs & love beads. & had straight jobs. looking for girls into free love, trying to get laid.

the government gave the hippies speed & bad acid. & a bad name. they don't want large groups of people assembled for festivals. they want us to fear each other. anti drug laws - long sentences for acid!

  • Any one got pictures of the Ark in Sausalito the old party boat beached

  • I lived all over San Francisco mid 60's to early 70's last address was 77 Carl st got busted and moved to Berkeley (Spruce st) broke up with girl friend and moved to Fairfax (Forrest Ave) The times were unbelievable.. the Ark in Sausalito.. the tubs in Geyeserville..the Lion's Share in Sausalito then in San Anselmo.. etc Certainly the best times of my life

  • lets get high and spread some love ...

  • I am so moving there!!

  • I was there in late August of 09' (From sleepy ol' Florida) AND HAD A BLAST!!! So many friendy, colorful people over there and all the history..People are so much more friendly and open mided than the East coast by far.. Im coming back next Summer!

Peace to the people at the Gold Cane lounge! Great times!!

  • Man,would I have loved to be there in the 60's! I am 44 so I missed the great time of the sixties(well,I got to spend four years as a child lol),still, the 60's live on in many of us and many of us would love to see things revert back to that time but people today are too materialistic and scared to stand up to the wealthy corporate world.
