Animals from all over the world adapt to the Philadelphia climate and thrive at the Zoo.

This video shows a lowland gorilla, polar bears, coatimundis, Aldabra and Galapagos giant tortoises, Amur tigers, and African elephants.

  • Great video! I wonder how they are holding up with all this rain we've been getting, crazy! Beautiful Beautiful video!

  • Thanks!

The animals probably prefer at least some sunshine.

But you should see the grass and flowers and trees at the Zoo!

  • It always amazes me how animals (nature in general) can adapt to different situations over the years. Nature is much stronger (and adaptable) than many care to admit. If animals can't adapt to their surroundings, why is there a healthy, growing population of (Louisiana) manatees in Lake Pontchartrain less than 5 miles from my house when the lake was considered dead and uninhabitable 15 years ago?

  • I wish zoologists would focus more studies and research on captive animal adaptability. No matter how hard we try to preserve endangered natural environments, I think we are only delaying the inevitable.

And it would make much more sense to try to develop ways to strengthen adaptability capabilites within endangered animal populations.

  • You can't love too many! Actually, all animals are my favorite for one reason or another.

I know what you mean about the cats eating the ungulates - that's one reason for my wanting all animals to be in zoos!

(I know, someone still has to kill their food, but at least the poor animal doesn't have to be chased down and torn to "bites")

  • I'm really glad that you don't mind!

That's a nice list of animals! Thank you for sharing them with me! I appreciate it!

Cats tend to be some of my favorite animals too. Although recently I have noticed that I really like a lot of ungulate species such as various antelope and goats, which are often on the cats' menu and is now causing me a slight issue, haha.

I love a lot of animal species though, perhaps too many.

  • Of course I don't mind your asking!

I love all animal species, but, my favorite has always been the felines, big and small.

Lions are my favorite of the big cats. And Pallas' cats are my favorite of the small cats. (I wish the Philadelphia Zoo still exhibited them!)

I think the elephants are my second favorite - their size and behavior has always fascinated me.

Next would be the birds (hammerkops and toucanets especially) and all sub-species of reptiles.

    I guess that covers all!

  • Great video, as usual! It was nice seeing the different species. =)

    It made me curious though and I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are your favorite species of animals? ^^;
