How To Build Your Own Computer - Step 5 - Choosing A Sound And Network Card Tutorial

Most computer users chose to use the integrated sound and network cards to save money, but you can choose to buy them separately if you wish better quality ones.


The main things to look for when choosing a Sound Card:

*Interface: There are three interface types: PCI, PCI Express X1, X4, X8 or X16 and USB. Choose the sound card depending on the type and number of slots on your Motherboard.

*Number of Channels: Whether you wish a 5.1 Channel or a 7.1 Channel. Choose the sound card depending on the type of speakers you wish to use.

*Type and Number of Connectors: 5.1 Connectors, 7.1 Connectors, Line-In, Microphone. Choose the sound card depending on what you whish to connect to your computer.

The main things to look for when choosing a Network Card:

*Interface: Network Cards are also connected using the PCI slot, PCI Express 1x, X4, X8 or X16 slot and USB.

*Speed: The speed at which the Network Card is running at. Ranging from 100 MB/Sec to 1000 MB/sec.
