@brooklynsfirstlady AMEN. American work ethic is getting pathetic. As a recent grad and an entrepeneur I feel this attitude will not help us solve our economic crisis. We were once #1 but we have slipped out of the top #20 in academics compared to the world. Everyone wants to take the easy way out rather than work and earn everything. I think the idea to extend the school year should have been done a while back. We got to overhaul the whole academic curriculum.

@pickleboy443 Your attitude as a 7th grader now is not a good reflection of our country in 10 years. Imagine you start your work or get into the military. You'll spend most of your year, including summer break to work. A vacation for me about a week is great time already. I do agree that school curriculum needs to be improved if students like you feel motivated to go to school, compete with the rest of the world, and better ourselves and country.

WOW this is dumb. Summer is time to have fun and forget school for a little while. We already waste alot of our lives in school. Also people cant wait til summer cause they have not seen families that they love around the world and summer is the time to buy a ticket a go meet up with them.

I still go to school and I don't think Obama should make school days longer. Trust me millions of people are probably thinking of dropping out of school if it does become official. We don't get bad grades bc of how long school is. Many students may even do worse, getting up so early during the school year, the weather won't help and all students look forward to weekends and our summer break too! Instead of making school longer, try using money for better education.

i use to think it was just bad teachers, but until i started working in schools, these parents barely give a shit how their kids' grades are. i've had students who could not tell me the year they were born. the 1st 4 to 5 years of a child's life is spent with the fucking parents. they should know their birthdays, parents' name, street address where they live, etc. the parents are also failing these kids. shitty parenting=shitty kid behavior. a longer school year will not solve stupidity.

i work in a school district as a teacher's aide...and in a poor neighborhood, these kids aren't behind because of a shorter school year, they have problems beyond academics. home problems, street problems, shitty parents who don't come to parent-teacher conferences unless food is served, abused children, parents that don't spend time with their kids to make sure homework is done, lack of up to date books...some of these kids worry when they will have their next meal. fuck you Obama!!!!!!
