  • lol is that small dog hurt at the end? man flatcoats are playing to rough with smaller dogs lol. I also got a flattie his name is rex and he is 10 years old and still wild XD

  • LOL, No the Red Setter pup was fine! He's bigger than Harvey now, so gives him a right

run for his money, especially with his energy!

  • Thanks, flatties are special dogs! Harvey is 5 now and is a working gundog. Look forward to seeing yours.

  • Oh my goodness!!!!! This is too cute!!!!! We only have one dog, I'd love to have another for our Irish Setter to play with, to burn off some of his pent up energy! LOL

Looks like your two are great friends!

  • They are great friends! they play for hours a day, Sleep huddled up together! The Flatcoat is bred out of irish Setter, Newfoundland, and labrador so they have a lot of their character inhereted in them, especially the sense of humour!

  • thats a big retriever but its beautiful and the irish setter

  • I swear flat coated retrievers are just black golden retrievers lol

  • omg how steeet.thats really cute. I love both of those breeds!

  • I used to have a flatty but we had to give it away as were emigrating to australia i really miss him he was such a good dog and he was really loyal and he always protected me coz i taught him so well he loved to play and he loved other dogs especially pups so i had to get another dog coz i was out all day

but hes really happy now he gets walked all the time and he has a girlfriend (another flatty called willow) and 2 owners who are in all day

  • So common was this, that there was a famous flat-coat stud that was black, yet his ancestry was Tweedmouth's line of wavy-coats. The Tweedmouth line is the line that was selected to be yellow or reddish, and that became the golden retriever. That stud allowed the yellow color in flat-coats to continue on, even after the two breeds separated in the 1920's in the US (earlier in Britain I think).

  • The golden retriever is derived from the reddish puppies born to early flat-coats or wavy-coats as they were called then, showing their setter ancestry. There's also a touch of collie in them. Some strains of working collie have wavy-coats, and this created the "wave" in wavy-coats. Flat-coats and goldens are derived from the wavy-coat. However, flat-coats are also related to the Labrador breed. At one time, all three breeds--flattie, lab, and golden-- could be found in one litter.

  • What lovely dogs. They look like they are having piles of fun!

My collie does not think much of puppies, or energetic dogs for that matter.

Miserable thing he, but we love him =) I would love a flattie but won't be able to get one til I have a house of my onw !
