Debunking The Latest Conservative Health Care Smear: "Death Book For Veterans"

Following false accusations that Democrats' health care reform legislation would institute "death panels" for the elderly, H. James Towey claimed in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that the Obama administration revived a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) booklet on advanced planning directives that would "steer vulnerable individuals to conclude for themselves that life is not worth living," calling the booklet a "death book." As with the death panel smear, conservative media -- particularly Fox News -- have promoted Towey's false "death book" claim, ignoring facts that undermine Towey's rhetoric.

You know sitting in New Zealand, we are absolutely amazed that some americans are shunning reform and the public option. Here in NZ healthcare is mostly government run, NO ONE goes without and everyone is affordably covered for the essentials. Oh and we are not communist.

What does calling europe's public health 'communist' achieve? Do you really think France or Britain is communist? They have better healthcare and if they are communist then you have worse healthcare than communists. mmm

Veterans don't rely on socialized healthcare... I don't and neither to any of my vet friends. This is another smear tactic video. They did give me this book at the VA medical clinic. And fox said "VA PHYSICIANS" not just "doctors". You liberals are lame.

It is sad that so many americans just believe anything they are told without doing research. @nalani005 I have private healthcare... if I have a illness or battle injury related to what I endured, then I may well use a VA clinic, but why dont you go to a VA clinic and TRY to tell me that its any better than a free clinic for couch potatoes. I work full time and pay at a family rate for my healthcare. So do MANY veterans, if they want good healthcare.
