Eric Mitchell UNDERGROUND USA 1980 at MoMA

October 7, 2009-- UNDERGROUND USA , written and directed by Eric Mitchell, stars Patti Astor as a fading superstar of the 60s, Rene Ricard as her protective best friend and Mitchell as a male hustler, with cameos by Cookie Mueller, Taylor Mead and Duncan Smith. Tom di Cillo was the lighting cinematographer and J.P. Roland-Levy the editor. When the 16mm film was first released in1980, it ran for six months at St Mark's Cinema, received a Cineprobe screening at MoMA, was broadcast on Independent Focus, Channel 13 and aired on BBC's Channel 4. Soon after, MoMA acquired a brand new print which it has screened for the first time this month in the series "Looking at Music", curated by Barbara London. NB: Underground USA will be screened at Anthology Film Archives, New York, on April 9th and 10th and at Echo Park Film Center, Los Angeles, on April 17th 2011. For more info, www.afa.org
