Cliff Robertson and Michael Caine star in this action classic about an American Naval officer who joins a British unit ordered on a special mission behind enemy lines to gather information about Japanese strength during WW 2. The final minutes of the movie will definitely keep the viewer's attention. Percy Herbert, Ronald Fraser and Denholm Elliot costar, and Henry Fonda also makes a brief appearance.

  • I saw this movie back in the 70s. I wish I could find it again, it was a WW2 masterpiece. I agree with rocketman5000, this was one of Cain's best efforts. Thanks for posting.

  • @356butch Easy to find this movie, it's been available on DVD for about 10 years. I've even seen

it for sale at Wal-mart stores.

  • This is a great movie. Most British WWII movies are in black and white and have stiff upper lips all round. This gives a glimpse of the Pacific war from the regular infantry mans' perspective. An underrated Michael Cain movie.

  • I was a movie extra in this movie. During the Viet Nam War. Two Navel Ships were in port at the time. The USS Coral Sea and the USS Ranger. We were paid about 50 phillippino dollars and a free box lunch.

  • Filmed at the then US Naval Base at Subic Bay. Olongapo, which was part of the naval reservation was the last town in the Philippines to get independence from the US.

  • RIP Cliff Robertson

  • I liked Ken Takakura, who played the Japanese Army commander, Yamaguchi. He acted well in "Black Rain," starring Michael Douglas.

  • @SupportingActor Thanks SA, I'll do an inquiry next time I'm at one of the vendors. Cheers!

  • I love it too.

  • I love this film

  • New Hebrides Islands in the South Pacific Islands. It is a Anglo-French Territory back in the days but in reality it wasn't invaded by the Japanese because US Naval Bases were built there in 1942 when the invasion of Australia was imminent.

This movie was filmed in Boracay Islands, Aklan, Phillippines.
