  • The Zouaves in the American Civil War were copied from the Zouave units and uniforms that served Napoleon Bonaparte as were most of the tactics. The outdated tactics combined with more modern accurate rifled muskets and better artillery made the war very bloody.

  • @panzerabwerkanone - Actually the original French Zouaves were not from Bonaparte's timeperiod, they came about in the French Army of the 1830's when the Native Tribe from Algeria was added to the French Army as a sort of native contingent and later developed into a full French regiment, four of them to be exact by the time of the Crimean War.

  • @rifleman1122 Yeah, and Texans had the best regiments of the South like Hoods Texas Brigade and Terry's Texas Rangers, aswell as Walls Texas legion and many more famous hard fightin Texas regiments.

  • Hawkins' Zouaves had a really impressive-looking uniform--I have a 54mm painted lead figure of one of these.I also like the 114th Pennsylvania (Collis' Zouaves). Of course Duryee's, the 5th New York Infantry, deserve mention here--they're probably the best-known of all the Zouave units.

  • The original Zouaves were AFRICAN troops hired by Napolean. They were not French, they were bad ass black soldiers that every white soldier in the 1800s wanted to be as cool as. Their cool drill and ceremony that so impressed Nappi, was simply the first time whites had experienced a new concept called rhythym!

  • @mackshayster And they stopped Lee's echelon attack on the second day of Gettysburg.

  • @EpicTrollBeastMan pennsylvania reserves: only division to break through at fredericksburg

  • @EpicTrollBeastMan Yes I did so stop crying.

  • @XXGDUBSXX Did you even read the comment I was replying to you fucking idiot? Shut the fuck up if you're going to say stupid things.

  • @EpicTrollBeastMan Don't be an idiot, the reason the U.S started Zouave rgiments was because of the reputation they already created.

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA! GOD BLESS THE UNION! GOD BLESS THE ZOUAVES! HURRAH FOR THE NORTH! NEVER LET IT DIE!!

  • @EpicTrollBeastMan Fighting 69th. NY wins
