jacob ellsbury runs a 4.2 in the 40 yard dash. i doubt reyes is that fast. hes actually the fastest player ive ever seen run to first.

Need to process a lot of information and make decisions while the adrenaline is kicking in at top speed. And need to be able to slide. Need to be willing to take the punishment your body goes through when you hit the dirt at 20 mph. Lot of guys aren't great at sliding.

For instance, Carl Lewis would not make a great base runner even though he possessed great speed.
