  • I knew Hermann Prey, and went to conservatory with his son, Florian. And what you all are missing who know him only through his recordings, is that this was a voice that had such depth, breacth and resonance that even in a large hall you FELT his singing as much as heard it. He was a gorgeous man to his dying day, and had a charisma in person that his recordings sadly do not convey.

  • For your information I have never wanted to impose my musical taste to anyone. If I ever did so, I excuse myself for doing it. DRUNK OR SOBER I LOVE HERMANN PREY!!!!!!

As you point out, very well, there is no right or wrong in music since music is something very subjective.

But I have never disqualified by calling anyone an "asshole".

  • Wild interpretation. I love "out of the box" thinking. Something is strange in his body language, bobby to the tempo. I've watched him sing many times, on video, and he does seem to be acting strange.

  • Herr Prey was a man of great poise and dignity on the stage and would never dare to perform intoxicated. Stop trying to look at exquisitely-trained artists through Miley Cyrus goggles. If you'd like to see an intoxicated ...."artist"..... go watch her instead.

  • He´s drunk :D

  • This is a very different interpretation. There are many things I especially like about this performance (pretty much everything from about 3:40 to the end) . There are times when he uses a little more rubato than I prefer though- even for a late-Romantic piece such as this (such as at 1:20). It's good to hear this piece, but I think I still favor some other interpretations.

  • My God!

Do notisten to Lied if you don't have the slightest idea of it!

"Der Feuerreiter" : a madterpiece of Moerike and ingeniously understood and composed by Wolf!

Hermann - great: this song you do not sing; you say it you make people be afraid etc...

Listen to "Meine Rose" by Schumann when Prey is singing it. No singer on the whole world will touch you in the deapest parts of your Soul... That is a song to SING... Learn something

  • @orolo Your comment is a perfect example of absolute ignorance.

  • is he singing it from original key (b minor) ?

  • this is an acting piece unless you know the text dont judge the singing, he is performing the text. he was one of the finest best baritones of all time. he is old hear but still posesses a great voice. if you want to hear baritonal perfection listen to his younger recordings of something more singable like rossini. wolf is more heavy and dark poetry, rarely is it beautiful or sing songy. probably my least favorite liede. brahms or shuman for the win.

  • My opinion is entirely opposite to yours. While singing may not be perfect, this is a very good example of how to use all other resources to sing. Presence, acting, sense the enviroment among the public. This man was a true artist, a gifted touch by god (if it happens to exists). Perhaps he was not at his best here but he was yet an amazing performer.

  • This is is a perfect example of how not to sing.
