This piece was played on a concert on the 20th of april, 2008 at the 'Mesdag museum' in The Hague-Holland (The Netherlands) by the composer himself. It was a concert on which he played his own works, mostly intimate, lyrical pieces for piano.
The concert was in style with the pictures of the exhibition, about the influence of Pre Raphaelite painters on symbolistic painters in Holland / The Netherlands around 1900, like Jan Toorop, Van Welie, Moulijn, and others.
For this exhibition, Maartje de Haan, director of the museum, had made a book in which she combined Dutch romantic poetry with the paintings of the exhibition. This book was called: 'Only tears', 'Melancholy in painting and poetry'.
Marc also recited 3 poems out of this booklet, after which he played a melancholic piece of himself, which was in the mood of this poetry.
The concert ended with a completely other sort of music, the turbulent 'Balkan Fantasy' of marc van Delft, in order to have a merry ending and an apotheosis as closing part.
