Info:
Thought it was about time for another solo cover, and what better choice than old school A7X? Avenged was one of my favorite bands a couple of years ago during the City of Evil era, but I thought that everything they have produced since has been a bit lacking, and their ego's seem to have of gone through the roof. Many people claim Synester to be one of the best guitarists ever, and this produces a lot of debate between guitar purists stating that he is nothing compared to the likes of Vai or Petrucci. Whilst Syn might not have the technical prowess of these elite guitarists, I believe that he has been able to create his own unique sound, personal to him. In this regard, I liken him to that of Slash, in that you can listen to one of his solo's and just know that hes playing it. Because of this, I think Synester should be recognized as a competent guitarist, and credit should be given on this basis. Guitarists cannot be "better" than one another, its just someones subjective opinion of who they prefer.

Techniques/Tips:
- There are no real fast notes in this solo, but I would still consider it quite technical.
- Articulate the bends, and recognize the difference between a half and a full bend. Some of the notes are held before the bend is applied.
- Im fairly sure Syn plays the whole solo with alternate picking across all of the arpeggios. Economic picking can be used, but clarity will be lost between the notes.

Gear:
Guitar: Ibanez RGT42DXFM
- Neck pickup: Dimarzio EVO DP158
- Bridge pickup: Seymour Duncan Dimebag Darrell
Strings: Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky
Tuning: Drop D (DADGBE)
Effects: POD X3
- Solo patch: 2002 Angel P-Ball (with delay)
- Rhythm patch: 2002 Angel P-Ball
Video: Canon Legria HFR16
Audio Editing: Audacity
Video Editing: Sony Vegas Pro 9

Tabs:
I used version 4 of ultimate-guitar.com by riggdaddy2k5. The notes and timing is mainly correct, but I changed a lot of the fret positions to arpeggios.

  • Nice!

Can I suggest trying some All That Remains songs? Just a suggestion...

  • @ChappersLaNoCry plan to eventually get around to it, but I'll need to change the tuning of my guitar to D standard I think, so not for a fair while.

  • reuploaded :)
