only having had a house fire in september 08, we was all asleep and the only thing that alerted us to the fire was are dog barking in the hallway and at that point the living room, Kitchen & roof was smotherd in flames and the smoke well you cant even describe how nasty it was, the only thing that kept us alive was the fact it was a hot night and we had bedroom fans on so the smoke couldn't get to us as quickly but soon as those doors was open you couldn't breathe or see where you was going.

If you were to watch this PSA again and listen to the narrator, one would realise that it would only take a couple of breaths of toxic smoke to render yourself unconscious. There's no way if you were in a deep sleep you'd wake up from the smell and/or cough reflex in time to save yourself, which is why you should always check your smoke alarm.

One wonders why smoke wouldn't make a sleeper cough violently and wake up ... hopefully, in time to save himself. I wonder if incense would trigger such an alarm all day long
